Leigh Patalay, Psy.D.


Dr. Patalay is a licensed psychologist (PSY34612). Dr. Patalay specializes in utilizing evidence practices creatively to meet children, adolescents’, adults’ and families’ unique needs. She has expertise in working with children, adolescents, adults, and families struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, and adjustment; although, has worked with a wide range of difficulties. Dr. Patalay approaches therapy collaboratively and creatively, enlisting patients as partners in their care.

Dr. Patalay obtained her Psy.D. from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. She completed her post-doctoral training at Pacific Anxiety Group. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Alameda Family Services in Alameda, CA, a community mental health agency where she provided narrative therapy to families, teens, and adults struggling with a wide range of problems and co-facilitated a 0-7 multi-family group and a parenting group. Dr. Patalay completed her practicums at Contra Costa County Central Children’s Clinic providing CBT informed treatment with children and teens, Discovery Counseling Center providing school-based therapy at an Elementary School, and the Berkeley CBT Clinic implementing CBT, ACT, schema therapy, DBT, EET, and mindfulness exercises with adults, while also co-facilitating an anger management group for older adults at the Centers for Elders Independence. As a doctoral student Dr. Patalay also held a summer psychological assistant/behavioral coach position at Eastbay Behavior Therapy Center where she learned about using ACT to treat OCD, anxiety, and emotion regulation. Prior to her graduate education Dr. Patalay supported children and teens on the autism spectrum using Applied Behavioral Analysis in home and school settings, worked with foster youth in a level 12 group home, and provided emotional support on a warmline hotline through NAMI. Dr. Patalay enjoys helping patients utilize their strengths to become the best versions of themselves.
