Julia Birt, Psy.D.
Dr. Birt is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY33684) who specializes in treating adults with OCD, anxiety, mood, and trauma-related disorders, as well as those navigating life transitions and relationship challenges. Dr. Birt utilizes a person-centered approach to therapy, incorporating elements of various evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Birt is passionate about positive psychology, and she works to help her clients recognize their personal strengths and increase meaning and fulfillment in their daily lives.
Dr. Birt received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium in 2021. She completed her doctoral internship at Sharp HealthCare in San Diego, where she worked with adults struggling with wide ranging concerns in inpatient and outpatient hospital settings. Dr. Birt completed her postdoctoral residency at the San Diego VA Medical Center and UCSD Consortium, where she worked with veterans in the Mood Disorders Clinic and the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program. During residency, Dr. Birt was trained in Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) and became a VA-certified provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD. During graduate school, Dr. Birt also conducted research on the effectiveness of DBT with the Stanford School of Medicine Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Lab. Dr. Birt received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Tulane University.
Dr. Birt loves providing therapy and considers it a great privilege to share in clients’ mental health journeys. She views treatment from a multicultural lens, considering how clients’ cultural identities, background, and life experiences impact presenting problems and treatment. Dr. Birt works to provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment to allow clients to open up and flourish in therapy.
