James Casey, Ph.D.
Dr. Casey is a licensed psychologist (PSY30424) who provides evidenced-based therapy to individual adults and couples. His therapeutic style with clients is warm, empathic, and collaborative. In his work with individuals, Dr. Casey helps clients develop tools to reduce anxiety and depression and to improve sleep quality. In his work with couples, he helps each partner to identify and express vulnerable emotions, and to improve distressing cycles of communication.
Dr. Casey received his B.A. in Psychology from Yale University, and his Ph.D. in Psychology (Clinical Science) from the University of California, Berkeley. He completed his clinical internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the San Francisco VA Health Care System, where he specialized in evidence-based psychotherapies with both individuals and couples. Over the course of his education he has treated anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep issues, and relationship difficulties using evidence-based interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing (MI), mindfulness meditation, and emotionally focused therapy (EFT).
