Dr. Williams is a licensed psychologist (PSY31939), who works with adults and couples. Dr. Williams helps clients address issues related to trauma, anxiety, stress, depression, sleep, pain, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. Dr. Williams’ goal as a clinician is to empower individuals and couples so that they may flourish in their lives, relationships, and communities.  Dr. Williams strives to form a collaborative atmosphere with clients to establish an individualized treatment plan centered on each client’s goals and values.  Utilizing a wide variety of culturally sensitive, empirically-based approaches, Dr. Williams teaches and models valuable skills to help clients overcome challenges and lead more fulfilling lives. Dr. Williams values warmth, narrative, and humor in forming a rich therapeutic relationship.  

Dr. Williams received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where his research focused on the relationship between individuals’ interpretations of traumatic events and psychological well-being. Dr. Williams completed his clinical internship at the San Francisco VA Health Care System and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Durham VA Health Care System.  Dr. Williams has extensive training in providing multiple evidence-based treatments, including: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).  Dr. Williams also has training in treatments that address concerns with insomnia and chronic pain. When working with couples, Dr. Williams utilizes emotion-focused therapy (EFT) to help each partner identify obstacles in communication.  Couples then engage each other to recognize their attachment needs, increase trust and deepen connection. 

Dr. Williams is a passionate teacher and cherishes opportunities to train students and educate the public on topics related to mental health.  Pastimes include: hiking, skiing, getting lost, and jazz.
